Trend Alert: The Block Heeled Strappy Sandal

Trend Alert: The Block Heeled Strappy Sandal

Dress (runs true to size, wearing a 6):   Nordstrom   //   Shoes:  Zappos   //   Bag: Amazon

I know what you’re thinking.  I remember the chunky heel, too.  When I first heard  it was coming back, I had flashbacks of unflattering mid-rise light-washed denim and many other unfortunate style choices of my past.  I winced.  But when I started seeing them in person and ON people, I realized they’re actually gorgeous and I can dig it!  These aren’t the clunky heel of your club days past.  The delicate strappiness of the upper leather contrasting with the block heel create such a fun juxtaposition for the eyes.  And don’t forget how much more comfortable a chunky heel is.  The weight of your body is more evenly distributed than on one teensy stiletto, so your comfort level is way up!

Here is the problem, though.  I also remember these strappy little heels that used to DESTROY my pinkie toe.  The synthetic strap of old had no give and would tear into my skin leaving me limping home or WORSE YET barefoot (ick) after the club.  Denied.  Not doing that again.

So I’ve rounded up a few of them that get excellent reviews for comfort.  I personally own the shoes you see above by Sam Edelman.  I purchased the “wide,” and I’m in heaven.  The material of mine is called “Tan Luggage Leather Suede.”  I once again know what you’re thinking.  I literally googled “suede sandal in the summer” when I was considering these shoes, because this is somewhat novel to me.  But it dawned on me.  They MADE these shoes in a strappy style, so obviously they didn’t intend for you to be wearing them on the ski slopes.  Frankly, the suede is SO comfy next to my skin, I wouldn’t care even if I was breaking the rules.  But I’m not! The only rules regarding material-type and time-of-year in fashion these days are self-imposed.  And for me, I wear what’s comfortable and feels right wherever I am.  White pants after Labor Day? Check!  Shorts at Christmas because it’s 85 degrees in Texas? Check!

Anyway, check out a few reasonably-priced options I have listed below and let me know what you choose! Happy Shopping!

Steve Madden Carrson Sandals  :  Zappos

These Steve Madden Carrson Sandals come in a TON of colors, including a your basic nude leather, yellow, bright blue, and multicolor floral.  So cute!

Steven Madden Irenee Sandal :  Zappos (wide widths available!)

The Chunky-Heel trend isn’t limited to high heels, though.   These adorable Irenee Ankle Strap Sandals are so cute for an event with more standing or walking.  Reviews say they are comfortable, and you can order them custom for your comfort as they come in average or wide width !   They come in a variety of colors, including bright greens and pinks! I’m a sucker for bright colors, but you can’t go wrong with a perfect nude, either.

Nine West Fields Block Heel Sandal  :  Zappos

Lastly, I can’t NOT show you a shoe in this trend that is half price!  This Nine West Fields Block Heel Sandal is a steal at $44.50 and ships free from Zappos.  It also comes in a variety of colors, but this “natural metallic” color is on crazy sale along with the black suede, black patent leather, and black leather.

So don’t shy away from this fun trend.  It’s actually a nice change to comfort, and it looks fab!  Happy Shopping and let me know your on-trend finds!

XOXO

Elisha
