One of the reasons I love fashion is that it’s a way of reflecting your personality in an outward way. But I’m equally enamored by the fact that fashion also affects the way you feel inside. Need to take someone down in the court room? Put on that power suit! Want to take yourself down a notch for a cozy night in? Snuggle into your favorite soft, comfy sweater!
The same goes for color. I feel transformed when I put on an outfit. Every day is a costume party! I feel sleek and classic in black, and I feel bright and “Miami Beachy” in white. And so it’s no surprise that yellow makes me happy. It’s bright, fun, and bold!
But I know what you’re thinking. There is no way you can pull off yellow?!?! YES YOU CAN! Absolutely EVERYONE can wear yellow! You just have to find the right shade for your skin and accessorize properly with makeup. See below for my suggestions for how you can pull off yellow, based on your skin tone!
Pale to Light Skin: Your best bet is a pale yellow or mustard tones. Pair these with a bold red lip to really stand out in the crowd. Pair it with a soft pink lip and blush to master the feminine look.
Medium and Olive Skin Tones: You look best in bright and bold yellows. These make your skin look tan and glowing. But pale yellows are also complimentary. Both colors look great with either a bold lip or soft pink color. Blush is always important when you’re going bold with color! Mustard yellows could wash you out a bit, so ensure you’re choosing more on the yellow mustard versus brown mustard spectrum.
Darker to Darkest Skin Tones: Congrats! Like so many other colors, you can basically pull off any shade of yellow. But nothing makes deep ebony skin shine through quite as well as a bright yellow. You can also showcase any color lip with that deep, chocolatey skin. Flaunt it!
