On our recent trip with Spirit Airlines, I meticulously planned out my and Espen’s  “personal bag.”  A personal bag/item is the one free item –aside from your seatbelt–included on your Spirit Airlines flight.  At a maximum of 18 inches by 14 inches by 8 inches, this bag is essentially “underseat luggage,” or luggage is small enough to go underneath the airplane seat in front of you. This size bag will come in handy if you’re flying other airlines, though, too.   Most other airlines allow two free bags in the cabin of the plane, a personal bag and a carry on. So if you’re goal is to not check a bag, you can accomplish that by packing all your necessities into a personal item/bag and a carry on. Then you can puff your chest and waltz on by the baggage claim carousel and holler, “So long, Suckas!” at the poor schmucks waiting for their bags. Disclaimer: I will likely wave back…

Most of the time I don’t pay that close of attention to the sizing because that “personal item” is usually my purse or a small backpack of Espen’s.  But my research of how to play the game and win flying Spirit Airlines  in this post led me to master the art of finding the perfect personal item. At 11.4”L x 15.7”H x 5.7”W, this Vintage Slim Business Laptop Bag is well under Spirit Airlines’ permissible stats for a personal item.  It has a USB charging port to charge your electronic devices which will come in particularly handy on flights such as Spirit with no electrical socket onboard.

 

How cute is this American Tourister Rolling Travel Tote?  It comes in this cute pink/purple combo, teal, and a black/gray combo.   It’s dimensions are seemingly tailored-made for Spirit Airlines at exactly 8″ by 14 ” by 18 “.  Perfect!  I personally prefer a rolling bag for my back, so this is a perfect option for me.

 

My son took this super cute kids’ Minecraft Creepy Creeper 18 Inch Rolling Bag on our last Spirit Airlines flight. The dimensions on this bag are 18″ by 12.5″  by 8″  so it’s perfect as a personal bag.  Having a rolling back as a kiddo is important, too, as I like to encourage him to be responsible for his own precious belongings.

 

 

 

This Rocoke Travel Duffle Bag made the list for a few reasons. First, it’s dirt cheap! At just $12.99 with free Prime shipping, it measures 18″ by 14″ by 6″ and holds up to 100 pounds! The personal bag is the ONE bag Spirit doesn’t weigh, so stuff that bad boy! It also folds down to 8″ by 7″ by 1.5″ inches.
